Product DesignProduct Design is taught with practical approach that encourages pupils to design and make products with creativity and originality in a variety of practical activities, using a range of materials and techniques. Packaging, labelling and instructions are also encouraged as part of the complete design proposal, while marketing tools, such as advertising and points of sale, can be used to supplement the making experience and help create products, which can be evaluated for their commercial viability. GCSE Product Design is a highly popular option in Denbigh High School typically with 70 pupils opting for Product Design. Currently the 3 Product Design groups in each year are taught by Mr G W Jones, Mr D Price and Mr A Brown. Many pupils choose to further their skills in the six form or take advantage of the many opportunities that present themselves after successfully completing the GCSE Product Designs Course. |

Bird House Project
As an introduction to practical skills in Product Design pupils manufacture a bird house. This project is also used to promote sustainability as all of the materials used in this project are reclaimed. The material is sourced from local companies. These waste materials and “off cuts” and used to manufacture a product that encourages wildlife.
The pupils learn many valuable skills in this project, which they will use in their skills later in the GCSE Product Design course.
