Think about the objects that you love.

Your mobile phone with its delicious curves was designed on a computer screen. The car you yearn for started life as a reduced size clay model. As a 3D designer you are at the crossroads of a number of skills.

You’ll look at materials, production processes and the impact of cost and design with a range of materials and media.

This exciting new course focuses on the production of products manufactured from resistant materials (manufactured board, wood, metal, plastic and card). It focuses on the application of materials, design history, and Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacture (CAD/CAM). The course enables students to study a wide range of topic areas through taught and practical based assignments.

Typical projects include a practical outcome, which combine traditional manufacturing methods and new technologies such as CAD/CAM, Product Design projects will focus upon design tasks such as radios, clocks, trophies, jewellery, children’s toys, storage and furniture. If you enjoyed the practical projects taught by Mr D. Price and Mr G.W. Jones in years 7, 8 and 9 then you will find this course challenging and rewarding. It will develop your skills in design, making, innovation, and information technology. It is the ideal preparation for our successful AS and A level course in years 12 and 13.

The Unit 2 Coursework or extended task is a project for which you are expected to design and make. It is a challenging task that requires a great deal of thought, planning, preparation and organisation.

In unit 2 students design and make a lighting product for a client. Denbigh High School is proud to be working in conjunction with PAGAZZI lighting who have set out the design brief for this task.

PAGAZZI is  the UK’s largest specialist lighting superstores, a one-stop shop for all that is the best in lighting.  Our AS Product Design students design and make lighting products to satisfy the design brief set by Pagazzi lighting after visiting the store and conducting all necessary research.
